Don't Fall for Free Phone Service ScamsDon't Fall for Free Phone Service ScamsPhone companies offering free home phone service are not always legitimate discounts. The attorney general in Arkansas has uncovered bogus free home phone service advertisements. Consumers have received fliers in the mail claiming to offer free local and long distance phone service. “The reality is that the consumer will be billed for both of these services if the consumer responds to this ad,” Attorney General Dustin McDaniel was quoted as saying in the Arkansas News article "AG says ‘free’ phone service ads bogus". Not all advertised discounts are scams. Legitimate discounts are available for eligible consumers, like the Lifeline Assistance and Link-up America programs, which can provide discounts on basic monthly service and initial installation and activation fees in some states. Companies like Sage also offer promotions for new customers that include low-price local home phone service and bonus long distance minutes. See our Specials page for current deals. |
